Hunsaker Family Reunion 2008

Robynn's family had a family reunion during the month of August.  We all went to Mount Shasta Resort.  We played on the beach and just hung out for 3 days.  Lots of fun - pictures below.  One night, Robynn's uncle Floyd took many of the adult kids out to Sengthongs Lounge to see Blue Turtle Seduction - a band that he knew.  That was fun.  And what is a family reunion without some tragedy -- below you'll see a picture of a big game of Red Rover - where Lauren injured her arm!  You will also see a video of Robby and Susie (or Corine) tormenting poor, defenseless little Jake, in the Lake.  I don't know how they live with themselves.

Dillon Beach July 2008

While Tami was here we also all took a day trip to Dillon Beach.  It was a bit chilly, but we all had a super time!

4th of July 2008

4th of July 2008 was a fun one.  Tami and her family were in town visiting.  We did fireworks at Nat & Eric's house.  Tons of fun!  One of the pictures below shows Emily in the annual Tudor Way 4th of July parade.

Jake Swimming

Jake loves to swim.  At the beginning of July he started to get his first taste for the water, and has loved it ever since.

Emily the Actress

Emily and some friends did a pioneer play. They practiced for a week, and then performed for family and friends. Emily is a great little actress, and performed all her parts perfectly! We're so proud of her! Brooke and Jake found a little frog, and enjoyed chasing it around. The play was held on the outside stage at our friends' the Florence's home.

Da Boyz

Jake wanted to be just like Ben and his dad - so Ben let him wear one of his ties to church. What a fashion statement!

Jake's got skills

Jake has picked up a love of basketball from Ben. Ben plays at least an hour a day, and some of it has rubbed off on Jake. He is amazing!

Dave & Ben's South African Adventure

On May 31, Ben and I went to Utah to see family and to reunite with Jean-Pierre Oehlerking, one of my old mission companions. Jean-Pierre lives in Margate, South Africa - and his mom just built a house in Draper, Utah. So, as a house-warming party (as well as to celebrate his and his mom's birthdays), Jean-Pierre came to visit the States. He held a South African "braai" (pronounced "bry") which is essentially a BBQ. He invited several former mission companions, missionary couples who served in South Africa, mission presidents who served in South Africa, as well as other friends - all of whom have some tie to South Africa. I took Ben along with me, and we had a great time! Ben loved to hear the South African accents, and enjoyed eating their food (boerewors - a special sausage), and learning about how crazy South Africans can be. I had the time of my life, and have re-committed to getting back to South Africa within the next couple of years! It was fun to reunite with old friends - and it was great to share it all with Ben.

Special thanks to Tami for letting us stay with her. We really enjoyed seeing Katie and Stephen's homes, and visiting with all of them too! What fantastic memories!

The first picture is of Ben and me with Jean-Pierre.

Here is a photo of Ben and me in Jean-Pierre's mom's (Elizabeth's) house.

And here is the braii!

San Francisco

We all took a trip to San Francisco on Memorial Day. We had lots of fun, and the weather was gorgeous. We visited an arts/crafts place called Zeum, and then went to Fisherman's Wharf. By the end of the day, Jacob was pretty exhausted - Mission Accomplished!

Ben is 12!

Ben turned twelve on May 5. Hard to believe! Grandma and Grandpa Gant, and Grandpa and Bonnie got him a surprise lawn message. Around 11pm on the night before his birthday, a woman came and decorated our front lawn with this message and some balloons. The next morning he went outside and saw this on his way to school. Very cool! And then, as if by magic, the following morning, the message was gone.

Pioneer Trip

Emily went on a field trip to learn about Pioneers. She was able to dress like a pioneer and live for a day the way pioneers lived.
